  • Dedicated Spyderco model for Oz?

It seems that the laws in Australia for knives is becoming more realistic, thanx to Michel (from Zen) and a new customs official that is knife knowledgeable.

We spent some time with Michael and Kaye from Zen and we were wondering if there would be any interest in a dedicated model for Australia? We've done this in the past for several other countries.

Sal I've been hoping for this day for a while now!
I have no doubts that an Australian Spyderco model would be a hit with alot of Australian knife guys.

I think that would be useful, I just hope that the various state laws wouldn't make it too difficult. I love the idea, and and would be interested. I suppose the question becomes, whats an aussie EDC look like, since I don't think we can really get away with a Mick Dundee size blade.

In like Flynn... Yes please. No idea what to request 😁 but I'd be supportive of it.

I think this is a great idea. Australia would have to rank up there with the rest of the world in knife making talent and serious collectors/users, why not one of our own.

Could in enquire as to where you this knife would be made - Japan , USA , Taiwan?
Where it is produced would influence the materials and designs .

Sal , I think it is a great idea but the design and type of knife would influence my decision to buy .

I've been on a bit of a Spydie splurge lately so I'm interested! I'll be very curious to see what features or designs could be in a dedicated Aussie knife. Name suggestion- the "Redback", an iconic Aussie spider.

                    Hi Ken,

Country of mfr depends a lot on the knife and the market.

Fixed, folder? size? designer? materials, etc.

I personally would be more keen on a folder for sure, alot easier for most people to carry regularly, as for designer we've got some great makers on the forum, I'd love to see an Aussie designed Spydie

I'd love to see a Peter del Raso/Spyderco collaboration. Maybe his utility in 154cm?

Even though I think this thread is not about the actual design and specs of this Aussie concept knife , I want to be the first to put my uneducated and uncalled for opinions into the pot

Choose something from the Seki range of FRN knives ( DF , Delica , Stretch , Endura ) and using the new Zome colouring technique to create a Aussie specific unique colour pattern on the scales .
Hap40 steel would be super cool but not essential VG10 would keep the price down and make the knife accessible and affordable to more people .
Not everyone feels comfortable buying a knife that costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars .

I like the sound of an Aussie Spydie being considered for production!!!
