WA addition
Hi guys, my name is Laurie. Currently living in WA for a couple years on a Navy posting from NZ. Originally from Carnarvon, WA, so it's good be back to my 'other' home.
Always been interested in knives from a functional perspective, for use in the field when hunting/camping, but also appreciate the look of some of the more collectible knives. I currently use gerber fixed blade and svord knives, but want to learn to make my own knives. I want to start with a general purpose drop point (hopefully nice enough as a gift for my fathers 60th coming up). I've got some basic shapes cut from an old circular saw blade (was told its likely L6?) to start with, but am very limited for space and tools while in WA. I'm looking for a basic grinder/sander to get me started and make do for the next year or so. Eventually I'd like to also make a larger camp knife, machete, golok or tomahawk.
The forum looks like a great resource, looking forward to learning a heap. I'd be interested in any WA based knife making courses anyone can recommend.
As per my forum name, I'm also into spearfishing and am a member of the WAUC.
