  • G'day

Just like the idea of making my own knives and such, forced retirement has meant a hobby is a calling, not sure that my neighbours will like the idea of a backyard blacksmith. Do urban hobbyists have much trouble with neighbours and noise complaints? Been looking at all the YT postings and got my primal hit things instincts all churned up.

Welcome mate. Within reason, sticking to council noise restrictions (re times of day) will keep you out of strife, regardless of what the neighbors think

No mate, no issues at all with me. My neighbours are fine with it as long as I don't work to late into the night.
most things we do are not that noisy. Make a post anvil, embedded in sand, and a gas forge, and they won't even know normally.

Men (and some women) have been making knives since we learnt to make sharp things by banging two rocks together. It is in your genes, don't fight it!

Gday Nosey welcome to the Abf, as long as your within noise restriction times it should be all good, but if you get on with your neighbours just let them know your going to do some smithing so they know what the noise is.

                  Welcome to the forum.

Nice to see a lot of Tasmanians here, now I'll never need to worry about accommodation wherever I go down there.

(Just kidding folks, don't panic ..........)

Thanks but I'm sure there'll be hiccups. Just think 2500 years ago Plato knew more than some running around today.
