  • G'Day - Seeking Sydney Casual Workshop

    Hi Everyone!

Don't myself getting a fancy workshop anytime soon

Recently made one or two leather things and i'd like to extend my craft skills. What would be perfect would be some sort of Sat / Sun "Shed", casual, hang out place.

I'm based near Parra, although i'd travel for a creative fun atmosphere.

I can only find commercial or get together "meeting" types stuff. Anyone know of such a place?

    Cheers!

Welcome to the forum! There are regular announcements on the forum of meetings, get-togethers, hammer-ins and workshops etc.
Just keep an eye out for one in your area.

      This concept interests me too.
Have very limited facilities where I live, also in Parramatta area.

I'm getting all the materials and hand tools together to make some knives from purchased blanks, but (for example) will only be able to sneak in some linishing if it's done at work.

I am in Rockdale, I am also up for an art/craft show and tell meets, even better if I there is a tutorial from a good artisan.

I was wondering about "Men's Shed" too, but had the impression that you had to be retired......
              There's one at Granville somewhere.

Been to a similar meets like Man shed, all they do is sit around the table, drink coffee and bitch.
Maybe I have gone to the wrong meets.

I do a bit of wood work at my local AMSA .They are a good place to learn new skills of many sorts.
If enough people get together you can start your own for metal work .
                  Here is the link http://www.mensshed.org/home/.aspx

The Men's Shed I go to is open to all comers and it set up really well lots of wood turning tools heaps of knowledgeable blokes willing to help people with no skill and little talent (ME)
And some of the old blokes love to whine and bitch but I grin and nod and just change the subject to cars ,guns, knives ,fishing and hunting and some blokes can even whine about these thing .

Mod please edit this if it is in the wrong place

Went to visit my local Man Shed today.

Yup, still bunch of (old) people sitting around a table, drink coffee and bitch..
Apparently they are resting between projects, so all is good.
They are a bunch of good people, some are very skilled too by the sound of it.
I am going to learn a plenty there.

It seems that the majority of projects there are wood working.
When I told them that I do some metal working, they show me a large metal lathe under the cover in the back.
Awesome.. I need large lathe to make some stuff.

Looks like I might be going there regularly.
Thanks for re igniting my interest.

So, is there any group interest in sharing space somewhere in the Parramatta area (or elsewhere?)
Existing shared space like "Mens Shed" / someone's garage / rental of small space............
                          Preferably available on weekends?
If such a space existed,I'd be prepared to buy (say) a small sander or drill press or a grinder - using hand tools at the moment because I just don't have a space that would tolerate grinding dust or swarf.
Obviously, the space would have to be secure.
