  • New to forum and the front door is finally open

Hi everyone just a quick introduction and a little bit about myself.

My name is Barry I grew up in country N.S.W. I am an ex butcher, slaughterman, boner and enjoy hunting so I use knives quite a lot. I collect knives, axes, butchers steels, sharpening stones and have a passion for sharpening edged tools. I have made some knives using the stock removal method and I am currently sourcing epuipment to try bladesmithing. My current job does not give much free time at the moment but this will soon change. I hope to pick up some valueable knowledge and tips about knifemaking from some of the experienced members and forum threads.

    Cheers

    Barry

Welcome to the forum Baz. Ah to be brought up in the country! When I was a kid , many moons ago many of us city kids had Uncles and Aunts with farms and it was a tradition to pack us kids off to the bush during school hols. Also during WWII when the Japs raided Sydney.

Ferreting around in the sheds, machinery and equipment was a real education & there always seemed to be a coke blacksmiths/ farriers wind up forges about. Also everyone killed their own meat so butchery skills were a necessity to survive before refrigeration.

              regards , Joe

                Hi Dutchy,
I have got a box of licorice allsorts but my favourites are the Japanese knives. I have a few Rockstead knives (the grind and polish on these blades are amazing), Kiku knives (again amazing grinds), mid eighties SOG's, Spyderco's,Emerson folders and a collection of butchers steel. But of course you wont believe it till you see it. I am working away from home for another few weeks but I will see what photos I wiht me.
