Gulargambone ?? I've spent a lot of time at Gulargambone over the years, last time I was there nearly everything had shut down. My uncle had an office in the main street across the road from the old mechanics institute and outdooor picture theatre, but he did most of his work in the pub accross the road.

The plural of knife is knives.
        One knife.
        Two knives.
        The plural possessive is knives'.

              Welcome!!

              G'day Jack

              Welcome to the forum.

Gulargambone OMG!! That takes me back to the "Harry Derth Playhouse" on the radio in the late 50's Harry Derth, George Foster and Grandpa!! Grandpa always seemed to know someone who had come from Gulargambone! It probably only had a population of 50 at the time!!

Looking forward to seeing your work up in the Gallery real soon. Show us what you have already made!!

                  reply to Ausblade

new here myself though did visit this way often as a kid , dad had a mate who was the publican at Armatree and knew folks here too

ya can by a nice place here for $60K or a bit more , so here i be, starting out again at 55

sharpening harvester blades and chain saws and such is a lot of the daily work here , plenty of that too , still a bit quiet here most shops empty but the cafe and pub , supermarket rural store and post office and bowling club are still battling on

the next few weeks will see me playing web master to build a website, www.gulargambone.net.au a free directory of all thats here and whats to see and do this way , see if we cant help our little town along some eh

                  reply to Dutchy357

i dunno if its ever been that low , 140 or so in the 70's so i read about 210 nowdays but dropping from 250 in the late 90's

hoping to get a couple army mates up here where housing is cheap and theres a heap of work if ya dont mind working

and posted some work above for ya

i'm just setting out really as a knifemaker , i've a long way to go learning wise , not interested in making the best , am interested in making what works for folks and something that lasts .. i wont ever be the prettiest knifemaker , nowhere near guild level maker , but i'll make a decent quality that folks will get value from , anything more is pure luck

cheers again for the welcome folks

hey and i get all sorts of hardwoods , yarran , ironbark red gum white gum mulga root and many burls , if anyones after some raw materials let me know , i do a bit of traveling on foot in the bush this way looking for stuff for handles and sheaths

Dutchy , to be honest the ones up here are all been ok , decent late 20's chrome steel , carbon content is always all over the place but a carbon soak ( charcoal and bone chip and 30-36 hours in that at cherry or better ) fixes that , but did read that war time pins are all over in chrome and therefore hard to guage

i've had 4 bad pins outta 200, maybe 240 now , i stuff more knives than that .... want some , cover postage , happy to send some as theres a few thousand laying about not 3 miles from me ,
