  • Hello from Aotearoa

Hi everyone,my name is Richard and i am a professional blade shearer here in NZ,ive got a company that have been designing and testing prototypes of improved hand shears, the blades that Ive being using have been made from D2 which proved to be a huge step up from the basic high carbon shears made in Sheffield UK.
I joined up here with the idea to keep learning about steel as i'm sure there must be other steels out there that would be well worth trying.

Welcome to the forum. There are plenty of experienced knifemakers and others here who can tell you all about steels. Go to the General Blade Discussion area and ask some questions.

Gday Richard, welcome to the Abf. I'll be interested to find out about your shear's and shearing. I have a reasonable collection of blade shear's , about 180 pair's and I know quite a few other shearing related collectors.

Hi there Nev,I spent some time over in OZ shearing in Queensland back in 90's,boy that was hard yacker dealing with huge merinos, that was shearing with machines though which was about the last time i shore that way, since then all my shearing was using the old style blades on many of the sheep stations in the South Island's high country.
