Hi, im a newbie to this site but don't see the point in it when I can't share photos all because im a non paying member. I joined up to find info and to share with other knife lovers what I have myself with a picture or 2....3...etc. Im not a big talker so any benefits from making 20 posts will most likely not happen with me. Are there any totally free knife forums or is this my only option???

Hi Welda
The point is in this forum you have access to some of Australia's best and up and coming bladesmiths, blacksmiths and knifemakers. Their knowledge, ideas, opinions and contributions are invaluable and a great reference source, not to mention seeing people collections and own work.
An easy option is to also have an image hosting site like photobucket, imageshack, flickr etc and share the images' html. Another option is to become a paid member, I think it's $10 a year, which you would have instant ability to post images from your computer.
There maybe other free forums for posting images but the quality here is unmatched IMO.

Welcome to ABF
As a non paying member you can still post photos just not directly on to the Forum .You need a Photobucket or similar account to load from.
Please read this http://www.australianbladeforums.com...s-on-the-Forum
Also as a non paying member all the information is available to you .i.e. nearly everything you need to know about how to make knives, what knives can be imported and general knowledge about many other things.
You can also buy from the exchange ,make new friends .
Please read the forum rules and hope you enjoy your time on ABF.

Hi Welda. Exactly what the other people are saying. I thought the same as you at first. Check out all of the topics, there's sure to be plenty of interest to you and I bet you'll have something to add in a short time. The people are incredibly helpful and interesting and many have great stories and experience to pass on. Stick around, have some fun & give it a go; just like life :-)

This is not a site, its a forum. Forums are for like minded people to discuss Tue topic at hand, albeit with words photos or videos. Its not so hard to say, "nice knife" " great find" or even "merry Christmas"
In no time u would get 20 posts.
U could otherwise try starting ur own free forum, until the server charges give u a rude awakening.

Welcome Welda,
This Forum is great...I'm on here almost as much as Facebook...
Just think...only 18 more posts...or you can pay the $10 (a year)...
Either way it ain't that bad...lots of great people with LOADS of info...half the time I'm scratching my head thinking WTF...
This IS the forum to be on, believe me.

Welds asked what the point was, so I will tell you, the point is, we need to establish an element of trust. If we allowed people to join and instantly post pictures, the site would be spammed hourly as it is we stiil get spammed weekly but not with inappropriate pictures.

Welcome to the forum
Additionally, try running a forum of this size and complexity on high tech. servers and high bandwidth connections and allow unlimited uploading of pictures and see how you go.
I'm sure you get the idea.
Welcome to the forum.Quantum physics is a bit of a passion of mine. It's extraordinary. There's a branch of mathematics that is based on lunacy, and that's wonderful.
