you know it's funny, but I have a Theory on that...
We see thousands of divers a month here, and when I was working on the day trip boats, you saw basicly two types of knives (Small and sharp or Old Shark/whale/Kraken killing implements)
Oddly enough, it seemed like people skill levels are inversely proportioned to the size of the blade.
That being said, mine is a cheap pairing knife, that has the blade modified to 1.5 inches long, and a sheepsfoot blade.

Cut it off with a dremel tool, round off the top, polish it a little, sharpen it so it's like a razor...
A sheath made from weightbelt webbing folded in to an S shape, one side longer and the short side 2.75 inches long (Sew that side first) and it fits right in with about an inch of the handle sticking out.

Thats about as complicated as I get for a Dive knife.

              Welcome to the forum.
I'm surprised that people bother to pack diving knives through airports these days.
I used to carry a small Kershaw Mariner and had to use it once to free my buddy from fishing line at 27 Mt. When they started making fun of people carrying knives on dive boats in Australia, I went to a Spyderco Pacific Salt folder tethered to a D ring inside my BC pocket. Now with all the hassle of travelling with folders, I just have a Kydex sheath tethered in my BC pocket and borrow a steak knife from the resort.
