  • Matt from Canberra

    Hi all,

Just found this site and loving it! So much info and inspiration.

I'm yet to get started on making blades, just easing into it all (lots of reading to be done here) but will start building my gas forge this week, once that's done I'll build a no-weld grinder and guillotine tool. I think I've sourced a good anvil and some other bits and pieces too.

Hopefully once this is all done ill be off to the knife forging school here and getting started.

I want to mainly work on kitchen knives. I had 10 years in the catering industry and know what I like in a kitchen knife, now I want to see if I can put the ideas into steel.

Looking forward to getting started, asking lots of sensible questions, and getting some posts up of my progress.

    Regards,

    Matt

Thanks Matt, I've been talking with Karim and plan to do one of his courses. He's a really helpful guy and seems to know his stuff.

                      Hi Alistair,

It's exciting to find out there's a more than a couple of knife makers in Canberra. Will be fun to catch up with some of you when I get started.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome.

Is there a limit to the number of Matts we can have on the forum? Welcome anyway.
Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of parliament; but I repeat myself.

Nope, nor the number of Canberra members.

Welcome Matt, from someone who is in the market for a good kitchen knife. Looking forward to seeing your work when you get set up.
