Hi Bill. How did you get the name Ringtail? We have ringtail possums in Australia.

In North America, A Ringtail (sometimes called Ringtail Cat; scientific name: Bassariscus Astutus) is a small carnivorous raccoon-like mammal with gray/brown fur and a black-banded tail found in the southwest United States, northern Mexico.

...Right, so - a possum then?!

Not quite. Trying my best not to sound like a smart $&%@, and probably failing miserably, the Australian Ringtail possum is a marsupial, while the North American Ringtail Cat is a nocturnal mammal.

But we can agree that while both look cute and cuddly, they both also have very sharp teeth.

                          Cheers!

Marsupials are mammals too. The ringtail cat is a placental
I have googled it, & it is closely related to racoons, & looks like one. Thanks, jmboz.

It has a bushy tail patterned with light & dark rings. The Australian ringtail has a bare tail that it curls into a ring.
