  • Hello all, a new guy to ABF (a few Pics included)

    Hello One and All,
Well i have been a forum lurker for a fair while now and thought its time to introduce myself. I have always had a passion for knives since I was a kid, guess it goes hand in hand with another passion which is bushwalking/hiking/camping (anything to do with the great outdoors). I am Ex-military and a single parent to one daughter (and people wonder why i like to have a drink now and again!).
I have a decent collection of folders and fixed blades (I have done reviews on my YT channel), in the last couple of years I have slowly been getting into making my own blades. I don't have the equipment to make my own blanks/stock, so i have been purchasing pre-shaped knife stock/blanks and shaping/modifing them, then making my own handles (wood,G10,Micarta), shaping and oiling/polishing. I also hand polish some of the knife blades (slow but rewarding!). Here are some pics of some my modified knives

After reading through these forums and meeting and speaking with people in the YouTube Knife community, I am now at the stage where I want to shape/grind my own blades from stock, let the journey continue!
Also just want to thank all the fine people here on these forums for the inspiration to take the next step into the world of knife making, i hope to one day to be able to create my knives from scratch.
    Cheers and Best wishes Dishy

Welcome to the forum mate. If you come down to Hobart at all let me know. I have a 2x72" Grinder I got off of Niroc, a forge made by his plans and a bunch of steel and tongs etc. too. So if you want to come round and check out what works for you you're more than welcome. Same goes for other Tassie makers, send me a PM for my mobile number so we can link up and pool resources and shipping costs.
