Hello from Sydney

Hi All,

New user Gavin here, from lovely Sydney.

Quick background - long time IT worker who likes to make things, cook and eat.

Long form - After a long day squinting at the computer, there is nothing more therapeutic than coming home and making something - or trying to make something. I have dabbled in a lot of things over the years, but I keep coming back to knife making and now I have a boy who is also interested in making things and is working his way through his first 'file to knife' project.

This forum has provided a lot of information for me as a lurker and I hope I can contribute something back as a member.

Have spent a frustrating morning coming to the conclusion that I have to buy another bench grinder - the one I have appears to have a 9/16 shaft and I can not find a spindle adaptor to mount polishing wheels on - they are all either 1/2 or 5/8 inch. In the mean time, back to hand polishing!
Sat down with the boy this morning and watched an American chap called Nick Wheeler forging a damascus blade and mounting an absolutely beautiful handle on a camp knife (!!!!) - made me feel totally inadequate, so back to the shed to regain some confidence.

Hope to post some progress shots of our knives soon.
